Science is an ever-changing, ever-evolving monster made up of a vast mishmash of knowledge, questions, experiences, and answers.
Since science is all about uncovering the weird and wonderful secrets of the universe, it’s no surprise that sometimes it throws something so bizarre that you almost think it couldn’t be true.
Whether it is a distant planet in the dark void of space, a strange oddity in our own evolution, or a strange creature from the depths of the ocean, science has always had the ability to shock us and surprise us and you can’t help but feel it’s not over with us yet.
Let’s start with this misguided medical practice:
21. Coconut water can be administered intravenously (injected directly into the bloodstream)
When a patient is severely dehydrated, sometimes saline will be injected directly into their bloodstream to replace fluids and electrolytes.
In the rare event that no medical saline solution is available, coconut water, with its composition of sugar, sodium, potassium, and other electrolytes, can be used as a short-term substitute for blood plasma in extreme circumstances. However, it’s probably nicer to just drink it.
